Overview

The National Business and Technology Conference (NBTC) is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2010 as the feature event of Nspire’s programs. This year’s conference is centred on the theme that “Your Success is defined by your Passion and Ambition”. Accordingly, we hope to equip you with the necessary tools to be successful in your future careers goals, whether they lie in industry, academia, or are entrepreneurial.

The conference will address various social, scientific, and commercial aspects of business and technology. Through a series of workshops, panels, interactive challenges and competitions, delegates of all disciplines will be benefited from the opportunity to learn, explore and network with established professionals from academia and industry as well as other like-minded participants.

Events

Exhibition Showcase

Come explore various career opportunities at top tier firms and emerging ventures. Delegates have the chance to network with a variety of companies that embrace innovation and talent.

Speakers

Our speakers are an integral part of our conference. Accomplished professionals will share their experiences and expertise to educate and inspire delegates to take on important issues.

Seminars

We all have the power to effect change in whatever discipline inspires us. Our three seminars are designed to provide insight into different ways to incorporate your individual interests into successful enterprises.

  1. Academics to CEOs: Graduate students or research professionals will benefit from a talk on turning devices, materials, processes or any other discovery from the laboratory into business ventures.
  2. Technology and Social Change: The socially conscious can hear how technology and businesses can come together to help initiate or accelerate social movements.
  3. The Effect of Technology on Business Landscapes: New technologies are forcing a revolution in traditional revenue models. Having the insight to incorporate new technologies and ideas into traditional business practices is vital in order to build successful enterprises.

Workshops

The most brilliant visionaries are only as good as their tools and skills, and it is our goal to provide our delegates with a handful of those tools.

  1. Financing: From Fools to VC’s: Being able to secure financing, from government programs or venture capital, is vital in order to continue developing and building ideas.
  2. Marketing: Getting the word of your ideas and products to potential customers through an increasingly connected and marketed world is always a challenge.
  3. Business Nuts and Bolts: The details of starting a business, from the role of the board of directors to legal requirements, are vitally important to working with start-up ventures.

Each of these topics will be discussed and developed to provide our delegates with the skills necessary to make their ideas successful.

Panel Discussions

The value of any technology is determined by how it is used. Discussions on the various technologies and policies that influence businesses along with individuals are vital to expanding our knowledge and opinions. We will facilitate discussions with expert panels and delegates on three different issues that are important for today’s use and development of technology.

  1. Use and Evolution of Social Media
  2. Innovation Policy
  3. Alternative Energies

Entrepreneurship Competition

As one of NBTC’s signature events, the Entrepreneurship Competition allows teams from across the country to present their innovative business plans to a panel of experienced entrepreneurs and industry professionals. The competition provides teams with an opportunity to showcase their ideas and interact with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to changing the landscape of modern business. Competitors also gain invaluable experience and feedback, while vying for the grand prize from the MaRS Discovery District.

MaRS will provide business advisory services that would be valued at at least $25,000. This includes activities as diverse as mentoring by experienced business leaders, market intelligence reports, coaching on business plan preparation and on investor pitch presentation.

Consulting Case Competition

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a team to formulate realistic solutions to a case in the realm of technology and business. You will have the chance to present your solutions to a panel of consults that can provide insightful criticism and advice based on their vast experience. No prior consulting knowledge or experience is necessary. A $1000 cash prize will be rewarded to the winner.

And more available soon on www.nbtc.ca
